Registering as a specialist VM practitioner

Benefits of Registration

A number of governments and public sector agencies have recognised the substantial benefits that Value Management can bring to their organisations, programs and projects.   With this in mind, they are now requiring the formal application of Value Management, sometimes as a pre-requisite to funding approval.   In the early days of mandating VM studies, some agencies developed their own lists of approved facilitators for such studies and some governments maintained a central list that all their agencies were required to use.

There is now widespread recognition that the Institute, as the independent professional association for Value Management, is the most appropriate organisation to establish and apply criteria for specialist skills relating to Value Management.   Therefore, most governments and their agencies have formally discontinued their former listing practices and now refer their agencies to the Institute’s Register.

Members and Fellows who are included in the Register have their names and contact details listed in the specialist category whose criteria they have satisfied  and they have the opportunity of lodging a quarter-page display of information that sets out their professional interests and experience.   The Register is maintained “live” and a single copy, clearly dated, is printed afresh to meet each enquirer’s request.  The Register is also included on the Institute’s web site, where even the casual browser is likely to see the listing of registrants and their “information”.

Each registrant is also entitled (whilst their registration is current - granted for 3 years at any one time) to display additional post-nominals appropriate to their category of registration.  For example:      RegVMFacil  is the additional designation for those registered as meeting the Institute’s criteria for facilitation of participative VM workshops.

Each registrant receives a coloured registration certificate, signed and sealed, testifying to his/her specialist professional recognition.  The registration certificate is additional to the membership certificate.  It is of complementary design but features a different colour.   It is well suited to public display in one’s office or reception area alongside one’s membership certificate.

Applications

Registration is only available to personal members of the Institute who hold the grade of Member or Fellow and whose subscriptions are paid up to date.

To apply for registration (or to renew it for an additional 3-year period), you must print out, complete and lodge an Application Form and the Contact Details sheet.   These must be accompanied by additional material that you must prepare,  together with payment of the Application Fee and a year’s subscription for registration.   Applications are not considered until all required information is received.   All these requirements are set out in the Instructions for Applicants.

When an application is approved, the registrant will be invited to submit display information for inclusion in the Register.

All the following documents are pertinent.

If you have an additional enquiry, please direct it to the appropriate Officer of the Institute (normally the Hon Secretary in the first instance).
