1800s, while Tasmanian Aboriginals first reached here 40,000 years ago.

The conference will be held in Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, the southern most 
state of Australia. Hobart has a rich heritage filled with exciting history.  It has 
developed into an eclectic blend of old and new.  The city is nestled under Mount Wellington and 
linked by the Derwent River.

Hobart is the second oldest city in Australia behind Sydney and is the largest city in the state.   

• The population of Tasmania is 472,000. Main centres are Hobart (the 
  capital city with 195,500 people) Launceston (98,500), Burnie (18,000) and Devonport (25,000)
• Tasmania has more than 2000 km of walking tracks and 17 national parks.
• The Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area covers 1.38 million hectares.
• Hobart has the nation’s second-lowest rainfall (626 mm or 24 inches)
  of all Australian capital cities.
• The average summer temperature is a comfortable 21°C (70°F). 
  Winter’s average is 12°C (52° F).
• The weather in southern Tasmania is classed as temperate, so extreme 
  conditions are rare.
• One of the nicest aspects of Hobart's weather is you never get bored with
   it, so don't be surprised if you have all four seasons in one day. 
• When travelling to Hobart you need to bring a short sleeve shirt for the warm days and a 
  coat for the cooler days.
